Light and tasty: The Momeraths
Far too nice for their own good the Momeraths finger-pick up a storm of undeniably classic positive folk energy. It’s like the musical equivalent of hanging out with Rupert Bear after he’s had six cans of Red Bull.

Our good man Mr. Tuckshop talked to the 'raths for us, though he only asked silly questions:

1. Hello Momeraths, we hear that you've just done your first music video, was it a fun experience?

Yes it was great fun, it took two days to shoot and was a bit odd as we'd never done a video before. The first day was freezing and we were in kid's pyjamas one cold evening at the beginning of january and claire, richard and paolo had to shoot some scenes where they were sitting on the floor! And the second day was like a big party in the pub where we run our mad hatters night as we had a lot of friends there who were playing parts in the video.

2. With 2009 already under way, excluding the incredibly fashionable bum bag, what would be your style tips for the upcoming season?

What about knitwear for cd's? colour! colour! colour! colour! and knitwear for cds definitely, and always why not!

3. A few weeks ago you did a session with Tuckshop Community Radio, during the recording Clare's bed was broken, has it been fixed? did the goldfish recover from the whole escapade?

yes the bed has been fixed and the fish seemed to enjoy it more then we thought as there were three more in the tank a week later.

4. As a band you are certainly very colorful, are there any colours which when mixed produce an Ugly pallette?

yes orange and blue make a sludgy brown erghh! and anything black ha ha!

5. If for whatever reason, something totally weird happened to our universe and we were all reincarnated as different flavours of Ice Cream, what flavour would the band be?
Any flakes with that? we would be neopolitan, with three flakes.

6. Where can we get your brilliant ep and what is it called?

Our ep is available on iTunes and in a knitted cover goody bag pouch from various record shops up and down these lovely isles including... Pure Groove (London) Jacks (Sheffield) Picadilly Records (Manchester) Rounder Records (Brighton) Resident Records (Brighton) Banquet Records (Kingston) Its also available from the banquet records website!

Here's the video in question, it is pretty damn cool...

What a bunch of drunkards!

Check out this cut from their live session with tuckshop community radio... what a pair of gems!

The Boyfriend Song (tuckshop session)

Hexicon

With an album in the making, and a single released under the Mentalist Association label, 2009 holds fortune for these guys - and deservedly so.

We popped in on rehearsals for their Club Ugly performance (3rd Feb)... and got this tasty little morsel courtesy of Ian "Shaky-hands". (who's that dork in the background?)

"Hexicon make the sound of mellow hillbillies tripping in the countryside" - Artrocker

"A nice variant of indiepop, complete with french horn and lap steel and other cutesy instruments…definitely something to watch out for." - Central European music journal

Meet Gabriel Burne...

Gabriel Burne has been kind enough to play in place of Captive State who will now be gracing the halls of Club Ugly at a later date (watch this space). Gabriel is an accomplished musician playing what Timeout described as "slightly rustic acoustic tuneage".

The lovely folks at Tuckshop Community Radio have provided us with a couple of the songs that Gabriel recorded for their 'Living Room Sessions'.

The first track, Another Day highlights Gabriel's sensitive side with a classic finger-picked folk ballad...

The second track, 'Rainbow' is a slightly more raucous call of a jilted lover demonstrating Burne's position where folk and anti-folk meet and almost sounding like Heartbreaker-era Ryan Adams.

Blow the Horns! arise! arise!
An interview with the charming Hornblower Brothers

1. What's your new years resolution as a band?
To release a single and to have as much fun as possible

2. Are any of you related? and can any of you play any horns?
We are not related, but we are connected by a fraternal bond that cannot be shattered by any external forces. And yes, Gary can play the Melody Horn, if that counts!

3. Being a modern "metro sexual" band, what in your opinion is the fashion worlds most "ugly accessory" potentially terrifying all small children and even Gok Wan?
The fashion world is all ugly in my humble opinion. But the ugliest accessory has to be those belts that have 'Jesus loves me' and things like that written on them.. I just think..Jesus does not love you, you look like an idiot.

4. Being ugly has never hindered the likes of John Prescott into becoming a success. What do you think the secret is to this? and to your blossoming popularity?
John Prescott got where he is because he is from Yorkshire. Being from Yorkshire gives you a head start in life.

5. Which song do you wish you had written?
Regina Spektor - The ghost of corporate future

6. When Tuckshop community radio recorded your session late last year, one of your groupies had a mighty impressive moustache. Do you think your music naturally appeals to hairy men? or do you also have hairless fans?
Our music appeals to hairy people as well as hairless people..it bridges that divide...partly because some of us in the band are extremely hairy whilst others are still battling through puberty.

7. what song do you want played at your funeral?<
The Rentals - Friends of p

8. who would you like to write with?
Jim Steinman

9. The credit crunch is currently crippling the pocket of the average uk resident, apart from attending the free Club Ugly night at the Social, what are your best money saving tips?
My best money saving technique is to wash you hair with soap and eat rice and baked beans with a knob of butter on the top...delicious!

10. any band particularly impresses you at the moment?
Swims - www.myspace.com/swimsuk

Free track: Android with a Heart
